DropBack Deadline: Monday, Sept. 13
Restricted Withdrawal Deadline: Friday, October 29
Grading: The semester grade will be computed from the final exam
(25%),
class tests (50%), homework and computer labs (25%). Three 125 point
tests
will be given in class. You are encouraged to work together on your
homework
assignments, however each individual should prepare the final version.
No late homework will be accepted. Homework may be turned in
early.

B (80%89.99%)
C (70%79.99%)
D (60%69.99%)
Readiness Test: Must be between Aug. 23 and Aug. 30 in
the Department of Mathematics
Testing Center, PSA21. This is to assess your readiness for the course.
If your score is less than 11/25, you need an advisor?s signature to
remainin the course.
Mastery Exam: This consists of problems testing basic skills
in differentiation.
A score of at least 85% on one of three attempts will be considered
mastery and
will get a student 50/50 points to be added to the test portion of
the grade.
It will be given in the Testing Center on 3 successive Mondays and
Tuesdays
beginning October 18.
Makeup Tests: Will be given at the discretion of the instructor
and only in the case of
verified medical or other emergency. The instructor must be notified
before the exam is given.
Call the instructor's office or the Mathematics Department Office (9653951)
and leave a message.
Calculators: A graphing calculator, TI86 or 89
is recommended.
Computer Software: The primary computer resource will be the
computer algebra system Maple.
This software is installed at all of the computing sites on campus.
It may sometimes be purchased
in the computer store at the Computing Commons or at http://www.maplesoft.com/studentorder.html.
A demo version of Maple Release 4 can be downloaded free from http://math.la.asu.edu/~joe/MAPLE.html
Final Exam Policy: The final exam schedule listed in the schedule
of classes will be strictly followed.
It is the policy of the Department of Mathematics that makeup exams
will only be given
for the following reasons:
(1) Religious conflict (e.g., the student celebrates the Sabbath on
Saturday);
(2) The student has more than three exams scheduled on the day that
includes the math final;
(3) There is a time conflict between a student's math final and another
final exam;
(4) There is a lastminute personal or medical emergency.
The department reserves the right to request written documentation
to substantiate any claim of
hardship. In case (4), the student generally is given a mark of Incomplete
provided that he or
she has a passing grade going into the final exam and is able to take
the final examination
during the following semester. Makeup exams will NOT be given for reasons
of nonrefundable
airline tickets, vacation plans, work schedules, weddings, family reunions,
and other such activities.
Students should consult the final exam schedule before making plans
for the end of the semester.
Grade of Incomplete: A grade of incomplete, I, will be given
only in the event that a documented
emergency or illness prevents a student who is otherwise doing acceptable
work from completing
a small percentage of the course requirements.

M, T, and W beginning on October 18. The test will consist
of 14 problems
and will cover basic differentiation. Students should know the
chain,
product, and quotient rules, derivatives of trigonometric, exponential
and logarithmic functions, and derivatives of inverse sine and inverse
tangent.
In order to get 50/50 points toward their test total, a student must
achieve
at least 85% on one of three tries. Each student will receive a label
from
the instructor. You must bring yourr label and Sun Card to
